Mary Robinson, ex-President of Ireland and Irish comedian Maeve Higgins introduce this uplifting podcast.  Addressing the man-made problem of climate change with both broad and specific feminist solutions, it is a work of art.  The teasing relationship between the two women of different generations is what makes the serious intent sing.  ‘Now Mary, when we began you didn’t even know what a podcast was.’ ‘Well Maeve that was a year ago.’

This kind of banter (‘Jacinda Ardern takes her baby to the UN, couldn’t I come along too Mary?’ ‘ No I really don’t think they’d let you in Maeve!’) and an upbeat jingle hold together the key subject of the podcast.  The atmosphere created by a chat between an august world leader and a younger woman puts climate change on an emotionally manageable level for the listener.

The laughter has the serious intent of introducing the concept of Climate Justice, which is key to solving the climate crisis. Where communities across the world have been cheated long term by colonialism and the globalisation of capitalism, women have taken solutions into their own hands. Some of these women are interviewed by Maeve and Mary.

Dr. Vandana Shiva talks about the Himalayan tree huggers of the ‘70’s,  about seed saving in Indian villages, and the rejuvenation of soil.  Hilda Heine , President of the Marshall Islands explains their zero emissions target. Christian Figueres of the UN, Katherine Wilkinson of Project Drawdown and many others feature powerfully.
